The district is governed by a board of directors. In a county under 75,000 population, the board's composition and appointment follow Tax Code § 6.03; in a county of 75,000 or more, § 6.0301 applies and incorporates § 6.03's appointment process for five appointed directors. Board and ARB meetings are open to the public, and notice of each meeting — stating the date, time, place and subjects — is posted on this website with the agenda at least three business days before the meeting dateGov't Code § 551.043(a), as amended eff. The board adopts the district's budget after a public hearing § 6.06, contracts for an annual independent financial audit § 6.063, and adopts a written reappraisal plan § 6.05(i), § 25.18. These documents are public records — request copies through the Public Information page.
For an appointive or elective board position with a term beginning on or after January 1, 2026, the candidate must sign and submit the state's acknowledgment of duties to the chief appraiser before appointment, or before filing a ballot application, as applicable — not simply at the start of the term.
